Sapphic books by Ragini Werner
Ragini Werner
Writer of sapphic books
I’m a sapphic author based in the Netherlands and thrilled to share my sapphic books with you.
My name is Ragini Werner, and I’ve been keen on writing since my childhood in New Zealand. Over the years, my love for storytelling has led me to create two novels that explore the universal complexities of relationships and personal growth.
My main characters tend to be queer because I like to write from my own experience, and let’s face it, the sapphic perspective makes a nice change from conventional straight novels. But, although the sexuality of my characters (and my own) is important, ultimately sexuality is incidental to the universal themes that form the backbone of my books. My characters just happen to be lesbian, gay, straight, whatever. Speaking objectively, we are all people, coming from all walks of life, and we all have to deal with the challenges life throws at us. That’s what my books are about.
As an author, I’m fascinated by the entire spectrum of human experience. In my stories, I strive to explore the intricacies of human relationships in ways that resonate with all readers, gay or straight, and everything queer in between. My goal is to give you an engaging, relatable read with compelling twists and turns that also give you something to think about.
Happy reading!
My first two sapphic books
Revealing Philippa: my first foray in sapphic novels
My first book Revealing Philippa was published in 2015. This sapphic novel delves into the intricacies of love and friendship against the backdrop of community theater. Set in the wild landscapes of New Zealand, it’s an emotional rollercoaster of a ride, written for readers who appreciate the nuances of sapphic love, friendship and the ability to move on.
Becoming Janice: a sapphic coming-of-age story
My second novel, Becoming Janice, was published by Iguana Books in 2024. This sapphic coming-of-age story is set in early 1980s Amsterdam and London. The story follows Janice on her fruitless search for ideal love and the complications she has to face in forming and dealing with relationships on her journey to self-discovery.
Happy readers all over the world
Thank you for your wonderful reviews
In writing Becoming Janice, I aimed to capture the essence of the 1980s lesbian scene in London and Amsterdam, blending humor and heartache with personal growth. The novel takes readers along on Janice’s travels to womanhood, searching for ideal love on the way and ultimately forced to face her past and accept responsibility for her choices now and in future.
I’m happy to say that Becoming Janice is collecting some truly wonderful reviews from fellow authors and readers alike. For instance, Manda Scott, a Sunday Times bestselling author, describes it as “a thoughtful story that teases out the complexity of human relationships, holding a mirror up to ourselves, whatever our age, our era, our past, our place on the spectrum of what it is to be human.”
Becoming Janice is out now
Becoming Janice, my latest sapphic novel, is now available for readers to enjoy in both paperback and ebook formats. You can purchase the Kindle edition or the paperback version on Amazon. Barnes & Noble offers the paperback edition for US$24.99.
For those living in the Netherlands, the book is available on Bol for € 8,99 (ebook) or € 22,23 (paperback).
And last but definitely not least: you can buy the paperback from yours truly. I would be honored to sign your copy, too.
Becoming Janice is now available to enjoy in both paperback and ebook
“An honest, well-written book that makes very enjoyable reading.”
